Pressure and Vacuum Testing

Pressure Testing Of High Pressure Piping

The pressure testing of Piping is done for various systems in Oil Industry. In general all the High Pressure spools fabricated for onshore and offshore requirement are pressure tested by Hydro test to the rated pressure. We had undertaken pressure testing of platform related and onshore terminal related high-pressure piping. The following pressure testing was undertaken as part of fabrication and testing

  • 6 INCH SCH #80 Pipe line fabrication, testing and installation of water injection for onshore terminal
  • 8” SCH#80, 6” SCH#80, 4 “SCH#80 pipeline fabrication and installation on offshore platforms.
  • The complete sprinkler system for crude tanks was fabricated and pressure tested to 8 Kgf prior to installation

Pressure Testing of Double Carcass Dunlop Hoses

We had undertaken Pressure testing of Double Carcass Hoses for Cairn India Limited. The Hydrostatic test for each hose was conducted with water to the hose rated pressure. The following procedure was adopted as per OCIMF 1995 standards for used hoses.

  • The hoses were filled with water initially, venting to remove all air and apply a pressure of 0.7 bar.
  • Measure the overall length of the hose assembly.
  • Increase the pressure over a period of five minutes from 0.7 bar gauge to 7.5 bar. Hold this pressure for 30 minutes, and then reduce the pressure over a period of five minutes to zero.
  • Raise the pressure over a period of five minutes to 15 bar and hold.
  • Before releasing the full test pressure, measure the overall length of the hose assembly to ascertain the temporary elongation and record the increase as percentage of the original length measured at 0.7 bar gauge.
  • Reduce the pressure over a period of five minutes to zero.
  • After an interval of at least fifteen minutes, raise the pressure again to 0.7 bar gauge.
  • Measure the overall length of the hose assembly to ascertain the permanent elongation. Record the increase as a percentage of the original length measured at 0.7 bar gauge.
  • Release the pressure and drain the hose.

Electrical Test: This test was carried out on all hoses removed from service for hydrostatic pressure tests.

  • For electrically bonded hose, continuity should exist during and after the hydrostatic test.
  • For electrically discontinuous hose, the resistance between the end nipples of each length of hose should not be less than 25,000 ohms.

Vacuum Test Of 20 Inch Hoses

We had undertaken vacuum test of  20” Dunlop hoses to check their integrity and condition. The hoses were tested using vacuum pumps. The Hoses were blanked on both sides with 20mm Perspex sheets to get a clear view of the inside condition of the hoses during vacuumization.  The hoses were tested for 25” of Hg vacuum.  Lighting was provided for witnessing the condition of the hoses inside.
