Sand Blasting and Painting

All the major structures and piping systems fabricated by us for Oil Industry under go Blasting and Painting as per the Paint scheme specified. Generally the paint scheme followed for Oil sector is SSPC SP-10.

The following general guidelines are followed for floating structures

Above Water Top Side (Atmospheric Zone):

a)  Surface Preparation- Abrasive blasting (SSPC SP-10) – 40 to 60 Microns. 


b)  Primer- organic zinc rich epoxy/inorganic zinc rich epoxy – 65 to 90 microns or as per data sheet. 


c)  1st intermediate coat – Epoxy polyamide – 125 to 150 microns 


     2nd intermediate coat – Epoxy Polyamide – 125 to 150 microns 


d) Topcoat— Aliphatic polyurethane — 50 to 70 microns

Splash Zone:

a)  Surface Preparation – Abrasive blasting (SSPC SP-10) – 40 to 60 microns. 


b)  Primer Coating(Optional)

c)  Ultra high build epoxy glass flake – 2000 to 3000 microns.

Permanently Immersed Steel In Water (Temperature < 50°C):

a) Surface Preparation – Abrasive blasting (SSPC SP-10) – 40 to 60 microns.

b)   – First coat Macropoxy 646 — 125 to 250 microns.

       – Second coat Macropoxy 646 – 125 to 250 microns.

Steel Cargo Baskets, Pallet Racks, Mini Containers – Painting Scheme

Various cargo stowage and transportation equipment like Cargo Baskets, Pallets, Pallet racks, mini containers etc., which are used in Oil Industry undergo following paint scheme in general.

Paint system No 1: With Copper slag blasting to SA 2-1/2 requirements
Clean the substrate with fresh water / remove any oil, salts or grease from the substrate.

Stripe coat to all welds, lap joints, plate edges, corners, sharp edges and any other areas where spray application of the overall coating system may prove difficult resulting in low dry film thickness.
